Syrskyi: Ukrainian forces regain control over eight settlements
Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, alongside other military units, have regained control of eight settlements in the Oleksandrivsk direction since late January, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, confirmed on February 23.
According to Syrskyi, Ukrainian troops have reclaimed approximately 400 square kilometres of territory located at the junction of the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
“I am directly involved in overseeing operational directions for combat missions in the Southern operational zone,” Syrskyi said. During a recent visit, he inspected units engaged in offensive operations as well as those maintaining defensive positions on a key sector of the front.
Syrskyi acknowledged that the situation remains challenging, with enemy forces continuing to apply pressure using small assault groups, artillery, drones, and in some areas, armoured vehicles.
“Despite these challenges, our soldiers are not only holding the line—they are conducting successful offensive operations,” he stated. “Since the end of January, the Airborne Forces and adjacent units have regained control over 400 square kilometres and eight settlements in the Oleksandrivsk direction.”
Syrskyi personally recognised the bravery and professionalism of service members from the 82nd and 95th Air Assault Brigades. He also expressed gratitude to all personnel defending the front line, emphasising their confidence, composure, and fighting spirit.
“Our plan remains unchanged: to carry out assigned tasks effectively while maximising the preservation of life and health of our defenders, strengthening defence capabilities, and increasing operational capacity across all sectors,” he added.
