Tehran brushes off Trump posts, prioritises diplomacy over online exchanges
Iran has said it will not respond to social media posts by US President Donald Trump that Tehran views as containing threats against the Islamic Republic, arguing that it is prioritising more substantive diplomatic and security matters.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran does not see value in engaging with statements made on social platforms, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“We have far more important matters. If we respond to posts and images published by the other side on social media, we will not achieve more important results,” Baghaei said. He added that Iran remains focused on “advancing and defending national interests”.
The spokesperson said Iran would respond “wherever necessary” and “in its own style and manner”, without elaborating further on potential diplomatic or political steps.
The President of the United States has been regularly posting messages on Truth Social containing threats against Iran.
On May 6, the American leader threatened the Islamic Republic with “larger-scale and more intensive” bombings if Tehran does not agree to a deal.
