Thousands protest in Germany’s Marburg against Merz government policies
A mass demonstration against the policies of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and potential cuts to social spending took place on April 25 in the center of the German city of Marburg, according to the law enforcement authorities.
Police said around 5,000 people took part in the protest. Initial estimates put the number at approximately 2,000 demonstrators, but the figure was later revised upward, Caliber.Az reports via German media.
Protesters expressed dissatisfaction with the federal government’s policy direction and concerns over possible reductions in social benefits.
Commenting on the situation, Merz stated that pensions would not be cut under his leadership. He rejected criticism of his remarks suggesting that pensions in the future could become only a basic form of social security.
