Tokayev: Putin visit set to advance strategic Kazakhstan–Russia relations
Kazakhstan and Russia are preparing to elevate bilateral ties ahead of a planned visit by President Vladimir Putin, expected at the end of May 2026.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the upcoming trip as a central event in this year’s bilateral agenda, saying he was confident it would mark an important step in deepening allied relations between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“I am confident it will become an important stage in strengthening the allied relations of our states,” Tokayev said.
Tokayev made the comments during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who said preparations for the visit were under way. Lavrov noted that key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia are being coordinated at government and foreign ministry level.
The two sides also exchanged views on current regional and international issues during the talks.
Putin’s visit to Kazakhstan is scheduled for late May 2026, and is expected to focus on political, economic and security cooperation within the framework of their strategic partnership.
