Torrential rains trigger mass evacuations in northeastern China VIDEO
Authorities in Liaoning Province in northeastern China have evacuated more than 171,000 people amid torrential rainfall and growing flood risks.
The relocation of residents from high-risk areas remains ongoing as heavy rains continue to affect the region. In some locations, rainfall intensity has reached 74.4 millimetres per hour, while certain areas recorded approximately 186 millimetres of precipitation within about 12 hours, according to Chinese media.
Earlier, authorities in Liaoning and the neighbouring province of Jilin issued a red alert, the highest warning level, due to the threat of flooding.
Meteorologists have reported a sharp rise in water levels and flow rates across many of the province’s major rivers, increasing concerns over potential flood damage.
