Trump claims both Israel and Iran asked him for peace “almost simultaneously”
Late on June 23, US President Donald Trump claimed that both Israel and Iran reached out to him nearly at the same time with messages seeking peace, even as the Israeli military reported detecting missile launches from Iran.
Posting on Truth Social just hours after announcing a ceasefire agreement, Trump wrote: “Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, ‘PEACE!’ I knew the time was NOW. The World, and the Middle East, are the real WINNERS! Both Nations will see tremendous LOVE, PEACE, AND PROSPERITY in their futures.”
He added: “They have so much to gain, and yet, so much to lose if they stray from the road of RIGHTEOUSNESS & TRUTH. The future for Israel & Iran is UNLIMITED, & filled with great PROMISE. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!”
According to CNN, Trump and his top diplomatic and security advisers were working intensively behind the scenes to mediate a deal that would bring an end to the hostilities between Iran and Israel. These efforts reportedly came in the immediate aftermath of Iran’s missile strike on a US military base in Qatar.
Just before Trump published his social media message, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that it had detected missile launches from Iranian territory aimed at Israel and had activated its defence systems in response.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported on June 24 local time that a ceasefire had been “imposed on the enemy” following what it described as a military retaliation against “US aggression.”
