Ukraine confirms strike on Russian oil refinery in Nizhny Novgorod region
Ukraine's General Staff has stated that its forces struck the Lukoil Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region overnight as part of efforts to reduce Russia's military and economic capabilities.
It said the attack was launched in the early hours of July 2 by the units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, Caliber.Az reports.
“A hit on the facility was confirmed, followed by a fire on the plant's premises," the General Staff noted.
According to the statement, preliminary information indicates that the refinery's AVT-6 primary crude oil processing unit was hit. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
The General Staff described the refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod, as one of Russia's largest oil-processing facilities, with an annual design capacity of about 17 million tonnes. It said the plant produces gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, lubricants and other products used, among other purposes, to supply the Russian armed forces.
The military further stated that Ukrainian forces struck a Russian drone storage facility near Kamenka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In addition, it reported a strike on a railway bridge over the Siverskyi Donets River near Stanytsia Luhanska, which it said is used by Russian forces for military logistics and the transport of personnel, weapons and supplies.
The General Staff added that a Russian command-and-observation post near Olshany in the Kharkiv region had been struck.
