Trump flags concern over Iran’s new supreme leader choice “I don’t believe he can live in peace”
US President Donald Trump expressed concern over Iran’s choice of Mojtaba Khamenei as his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s successor, saying he does not believe Mojtaba will be able to “live in peace” and that he is "not happy" with the decision.
"I don’t believe he can live in peace,” Trump told Fox News in an interview about the younger Khamenei.
It was unclear what Trump specifically meant, but he has repeatedly expressed frustration over the appointment and insisted that the US should have a role in selecting the country’s next leader.
“I don't want to say that, but you know, I was disappointed because we think it's going to lead to just more of the same problem. So, I was disappointed to see their choice,” he told reporters in Doral, Florida.
Asked on March 9 whether Mojtaba Khamenei has a “target on his back,” Trump declined to comment.
“That would be inappropriate. But look, I had a target on my back,” he added, referring to previous assassination attempts against him.
