Trump highlights landmark Washington meeting with Azerbaijani president
U.S. President Donald Trump has once again shared a photo from his historic meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which took place on August 8 in Washington, D.C.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "Such an Honor to have helped settle the War with Azerbaijan and Armenia and, at the same time, become friends with these two Great Leaders and Men, President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. It will be an everlasting friendship for me but, more importantly, for the United States of America!"
The meeting marked a significant milestone in regional diplomacy. On the same day, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, in the presence of the U.S. president, signed a seven-point joint declaration. One key point of the declaration involves the launch of the Zangezur Corridor—also dubbed the “Trump Route”—aimed at unblocking regional communications.
Additionally, the foreign ministers of both countries initialled an Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, signaling a concrete step toward stabilising ties and promoting cooperation in the South Caucasus.
