Trump: No plans for regime change in Iran
US President Donald Trump has clarified that the United States is not seeking regime change in Iran, just two days after publicly entertaining the idea in a social media post.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump said he hoped tensions would ease soon. “I don’t want it. I’d like to see everything calm down as quickly as possible,” he stated, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He further noted, “Regime change takes chaos and ideally, we don’t want to see so much chaos, so we’ll see how it does.”
The comments came as the administration faces international scrutiny over escalating military actions in the Middle East, following a series of deadly strikes between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Over the weekend, Trump sparked speculation about Washington's intentions toward Tehran when he wrote on social media: “if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???”
On June 13, Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Iran, resulting in the deaths of numerous military personnel. In retaliation, Iran fired over 150 ballistic missiles and more than 100 drones at Tel Aviv and other districts of Israel, causing civilian casualties and significant destruction. On June 22, the US Air Force launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities. According to reports, the strikes destroyed key nuclear sites.
