Trump pledges “permanent pause” on migration from “third world countries”
US President Donald Trump used a Thanksgiving message on the social media platform Truth Social to reiterate hardline immigration proposals, pledging to “permanently pause” migration from “all third world countries.”
In the post, Trump claimed that immigration policies under President Joe Biden had undermined US living standards and vowed sweeping reversals, Caliber.Az reports.
“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover,” he wrote.
Trump also said he would seek to “terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen,” referring to an unverified claim that certain immigration documents were approved using an automatic signature device.
He further pledged to remove individuals he described as not “a net asset to the United States” or “incapable of loving our Country.”
The US president said he would end federal benefits for non-citizens, “denaturalise migrants who undermine domestic tranquility,” and deport any foreign national he labelled “a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.”
Trump framed these measures as part of what he called a strategy of “reverse migration," which he argued was necessary to address what he described as “illegal and disruptive populations.”
“HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!” the message ended.
Elected on a promise to crack down on illegal migration, Trump's raids and deportations have disrupted communities across the US as construction sites and schools have been targets. The prospect of more deportations could be economically dangerous as America's foreign-born workers account for nearly 31 million jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
As part of a broader push to adopt hardline immigration policies, the Trump administration has moved to withdraw various protections that had allowed immigrants to remain in the United States and work legally.
That included ending TPS for 600,000 Venezuelans and 500,000 Haitians who were granted protection under President Joe Biden. The Trump administration has also sought to limit protections previously extended to migrants from Cuba and Syria, among other countries.
