Trump presses for peace amid ongoing Russian strikes on Ukraine’s military facilities
US President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Russia’s recent large-scale missile strikes on Ukrainian military facilities, urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt the aggression.
In a post shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump called for a shift towards diplomacy and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports.
“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on Kyiv. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, stop! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the peace deal done!” Trump wrote, stressing that the continued violence only exacerbates the humanitarian crisis and prolongs the war’s devastating impact.
Earlier, on April 23, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to accuse Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of hindering peace negotiations, following Zelenskyy's statement that Kyiv would not recognize Russian control of Crimea.
Trump claimed that a deal to end the war was "very close," but argued that Zelenskyy's refusal to accept US terms would only serve to prolong the "killing field."
"Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian territory but, if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago?" Trump wrote.
Earlier in the day, US Vice President JD Vance outlined the US vision for a potential peace deal, suggesting that the agreement would "freeze the territorial lines [...] close to where they are today." He added that both Ukraine and Russia would need to "give up some of the territory they currently own."
