Trump says Türkiye's S-400s not obstacle to potential F-35 deal
US President Donald Trump has stated that Türkiye's possession of Russian-made S-400 air defence systems does not concern him in the context of a potential deal involving F-35 fighter jets.
Speaking at a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Trump said current relations between Washington and Ankara are probably better than his first four years, Caliber.Az reports.
Asked whether the United States would sell F-35 fighter jets to Türkiye, Trump said Washington would consider it.
“It’s a decision we are going to make. We have a very good relationship. Many people, I can tell you, including the people sitting right here, think, you know, why wouldn't we do that? We have a better relationship with Türkiye, and Türkiye has been in many ways much more loyal than other countries that we think would be loyal. So, yeah, something certainly we would consider. It's a great plane. It's currently the best plane by far, and it's certainly something we will consider,” he noted.
