Trump says US investigating unconfirmed Iranian drone threat to California
U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the government is investigating unverified reports of a potential Iranian plot to carry out drone attacks on California from a vessel in international waters.
Responding to questions about an FBI memo warning of Iran’s possible intentions, Trump said the matter is under investigation but emphasised that the administration is dealing with many issues as they arise, Caliber.Az reports per American media.
“It’s being investigated. But you have a lot of things happening, and all we could do is take them as they come.”
When asked whether he had been briefed on the potential number of Iranian “sleeper cells” in the United States, he confirmed: “I have been.”
Earlier, Gavin Newsom confirmed that federal authorities had informed state officials about unverified claims by individuals allegedly connected to Iran regarding possible drone attacks. He later reassured the public that there was no immediate threat.
According to several officials familiar with the FBI memorandum distributed to local law enforcement and California authorities, the report contained unverified information.
The memo reportedly stated that in early February 2026, Iran allegedly intended to carry out a sudden drone strike from an unidentified vessel off the U.S. coast, targeting unspecified locations in California if the United States were to strike Iran.
