Trump says US plans to dispose of Iran's enriched uranium
President Donald Trump said that the United States intended to dispose of Iran's highly enriched uranium rather than take possession of it, adding that Washington was closely monitoring Iranian nuclear sites struck by US forces last year.
Speaking to reporters after a bilateral meeting with Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, Trump said the United States was using satellite surveillance to track activity around three Iranian nuclear facilities that were bombed in 2025 and where enriched uranium remained, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He said Washington would retrieve the fissile material at an appropriate time and that there was no urgency to do so. According to Trump, satellite monitoring showed little to no activity at the sites.
Trump also said the US strikes had caused significant structural damage to the underground facilities, making any recovery operation technically challenging. He argued that only a handful of countries, including the United States and possibly China, possessed the capability to carry out such a mission.
The US president said Washington had no interest in keeping the recovered uranium, maintaining that the objective was to eliminate the material rather than add it to existing US stockpiles.
