Trump: “US never needed NATO, made no requests from alliance”
US President Donald Trump stated that the United States has operated without relying on NATO and has not made significant demands of the alliance.
In an interview with Fox Business, said: “We have never needed them. We have never really asked anything of them,” Caliber.Az reports.
While emphasising US autonomy, Trump also engages NATO allies in strategic discussions concerning Greenland and the Arctic region.
In a recent Truth Social post, Trump announced that following a productive meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, a framework has been established for a potential deal concerning Greenland and the wider Arctic region.
He indicated that, based on this understanding, previously scheduled tariffs set to take effect on February 1 would not be imposed.
Trump noted that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and other officials will oversee negotiations and report directly to him, with further updates to be provided as discussions progress.
