Turkish energy security unshaken despite Middle East tensions, says minister
Despite rising tensions in the Middle East, Türkiye is not experiencing any problems with its energy supply, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said.
In an interview with Anadolu's Editor's Desk, Bayraktar noted that in recent years, the world has faced several major shocks, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which caused supply chain disruptions, logistical challenges, higher energy and commodity prices, and elevated inflation.
He added that restrictions on movement through the Strait of Hormuz have slowed global oil flows by about 20%.
"Our dependence on this region is at a low level," he emphasised, pointing out that Saudi Arabia and Iraq make up about 15% of Türkiye's oil imports, with total reliance on the region hovering around 10%.
