Turkish FM doubts ceasefire in Ukraine before US elections
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine is unlikely before the US elections are concluded.
"While a slowdown on the front lines might occur before the US elections, I am not confident that a formal ceasefire can be reached. The war has been ongoing for 2.5 years, and all parties are beginning to recognize their limits. It is evident how far one can go without resorting to nuclear weapons. Now, capabilities will be reassessed," he told Sabah newspaper, Caliber.Az reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The president said that the goals are “demilitarisation” and “denazification” of the neighbouring country, as well as the protection of the civilian population of Donbas from “genocide by Kyiv authorities”. After the outbreak of hostilities, the Ukrainian authorities introduced martial law throughout the country and launched a general mobilisation. The partial mobilisation was announced in Russia in September 2022.
