Türkiye reinforce Somalia with advanced radar video
Turkey has delivered an ALP100G early-warning radar station to Somalia, according to the Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak. The equipment was transported to the Somali capital, Mogadishu, aboard a C-17 cargo aircraft operated by Qatar.
Earlier, on February 15, Ankara sent main battle tanks — M48 and M60 Patton models — to Mogadishu’s port. The tanks were transported via the Turkish Navy landing ship TCG Sancaktar.
Sources say the deployment was an immediate operational transfer rather than a training exercise, aimed at enhancing the security of Turkish personnel and satellite installations in the Warsheikh area, situated approximately 60 kilometres north of Mogadishu.
The reinforcement comes after a series of recent attacks by militants targeting infrastructure and Turkish staff. The newly delivered tanks substantially expand the Turkish contingent’s capability for manoeuvre and fire support in Somalia, bolstering operations against insurgent groups.
Earlier reports indicated that at the end of January 2026, Turkish F-16 fighter jets were observed at Aden-Adde International Airport. This deployment marked the first time Turkish manned combat aircraft were based on Somali soil.
