Turkish Mine Association intends to open representative office in Baku
The international community should not remain silent to the landmine terror conducted in Karabakh.
As Trend reported, the Director of the Humanitarian Mine Action Association of Türkiye (IMFAD), Gürkan Keskin, said this on December 19 while attending the Second Joint Azerbaijan-Türkiye Cultural Conference in Baku.
He noted, that IMFAD was ready to provide assistance to Azerbaijan concerning the issue of landmines, saying “In this regard, we have signed a memorandum of understanding in April with Azerbaijan’s National Agency for Mine Action [ANAMA]. In Karabakh we had the opportunity to view the territories, contaminated with landmines, including Aghdam, and familiarize ourselves with the situation on the ground. We have prepared the necessary projects and are now carrying out tasks on their realization. Starting next year we want to establish a representation in Baku and cooperate in Karabakh in those territories where ANAMA is operating. We are working in the spheres of de-mining and assisting people harmed by mines and are ready to provide assistance to Azerbaijan to solve the mining problem. The international community should not remain silent on the mining terror, but should support the resolution of this problem”.
Caliber.Az recalls, that ANAMA and IMFAD signed the above-mentioned memorandum on April 1, 2022 during an international conference held in Baku titled "Humanitarian demining and sustainable development goals". Back then, Baku signed similiar memorandums with three other agencies as well, namely the Turkish Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Aid (IHH), the Research and Design Institute of Energy and Transport "ENERGOTRANSPROEKT" of Russia and the Slovenian ITF Human Security Enhancement Organization.
