Security breach at Armenia’s investigative committee sparks major theft probe
An alarming security breach has rocked Armenia’s Investigative Committee after $590,000 in material evidence was reportedly stolen from the agency’s headquarters.
The theft occurred at the Main Department for Investigation of Economic Crimes and Smuggling, located within the Investigative Committee’s building, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
According to reports, the cash was stored in a secure safe on the sixth floor of the facility.
In a brazen act of deception, the perpetrator is said to have gained access to the building using a counterfeit investigator’s pass, enabling them to bypass security and reach the restricted area unnoticed.
Efforts are currently underway to recover the stolen funds, and law enforcement operatives have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. A criminal case has been formally initiated.
Despite inquiries from the press, Armenian law enforcement agencies have not yet issued an official comment on the case.
