Iran blames opposing side for ongoing conflict, calls for action
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the responsibility for ending the current conflict lies with the opposing side, as he addressed a press conference at a school damaged by recent attacks in Tehran.
“They must stop the war. We did not start it. We chose diplomacy. We did not want to start a war, but the opposing side chose it,” Baghaei said, Khabar Fouri reports.
He emphasized that only the “enemy” can halt the fighting and called on the international community to take urgent action before it is too late.
Addressing the possibility of resuming negotiations, Baghaei said:
“Right now, all the attention of Iranians is focused on defence. We have experienced negotiations and were not surprised. Even when we were at the negotiating table, we were telling our military that they must be vigilant, with hands ready for defence.”
He also noted that, despite the death of the Supreme Commander, Iranian forces responded swiftly to threats.
“Shame on those who claimed diplomacy but succumbed to the military logic of the enemy. We were attacked during two rounds of negotiations. This must be remembered,” he added.
