Kremlin: Putin actively working to reduce tensions in Middle East
Russian President Vladimir Putin is making every effort to reduce rising tensions in the Middle East, the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told a briefing, amid an escalating crisis following US and Israeli military actions against Iran.
Peskov stated that Putin is committed to diplomatic efforts aimed at calming the situation.
“Putin will undoubtedly make, and is making, every effort to ease tensions,” Peskov said.
The official noted that Russia remains committed to upholding principles of international law, including respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, in comments that referenced recent tensions involving Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran.
When asked about the impact of the Middle East conflict on negotiations to resolve the war in Ukraine, Peskov said it was too early to tell, noting that there are currently no clear indicators.
“Time will tell. At the moment, there are no indicators. Obviously, the American negotiators have more work these days,” he said.
In response to questions about a planned round of peace talks on Ukraine being held in Abu Dhabi, Peskov indicated that such a meeting is unlikely in the near term, citing the ongoing escalation in the Middle East and saying there is no current clarity on its timing or location.
He also addressed the possibility of direct communication between Putin and US President Donald Trump, stating that no conversation is currently scheduled.
“A conversation with Trump is not planned for now,” the Kremlin spokesperson said.
