New routes open for Russian nationals leaving Iran via Turkmenistan
03 March 2026 12:43
Turkmenistan has opened four new border checkpoints with Iran to facilitate the evacuation of Russian citizens, the Russian Embassy in Ashgabat announced.
The newly accessible crossings are Artyk – Lutfabad, Gaudan – Bajygyran, Akyayla – Incheburun, and Altyn Asyr – Incheburun. These checkpoints join the previously opened Sarahs crossing on the Iran-Turkmenistan border.
Turkmenistan and Iran share a 1,100-kilometre land border, in addition to a maritime boundary along the Caspian Sea. The move aims to provide safe and efficient passage for Russian nationals amid ongoing regional tensions.
