Iran’s top clerical body rejects external pressure in leadership choice
A member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Ali Molaemi, has stated that the procedure for appointing a new leader of the country will be conducted promptly and without outside interference.
According to a report by Nour News, Molaemi said the process of selecting the next leader would not take much time. He emphasised that members of the Assembly have taken an oath to ensure that their decision will not be shaped by personal preferences, political trends, or party affiliations. Instead, he stressed, the choice will be guided exclusively by religious principles.
Molaemi also sought to reassure the public, saying there are no grounds for concern. He added that, as in previous instances, the Assembly intends to select a figure who соответствует the image of a “martyr-leader of the revolution.”
Earlier reports indicated that overnight into Monday, March 2, airstrikes struck the old building of the Iranian parliament. The facility is currently being used by the Assembly of Experts, the constitutional body tasked with appointing Iran’s next Supreme Leader.
