Iranian army says control over Strait of Hormuz could double oil revenues
Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz could generate revenues twice as high as the country’s oil income and strengthen Tehran’s international standing, Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia has stated.
He said the western part of the strategic waterway is currently controlled by the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while the eastern section is overseen by the Iranian army’s navy, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
“Our control over the Strait of Hormuz will not only bring the country enormous economic revenues — even twice exceeding oil revenues — but will also strengthen our position in foreign policy,” he noted.
Akraminia also argued that the presence of Iranian forces in the waters of the strait limits the United States’ ability to restore military infrastructure at its bases in Persian Gulf countries.
According to the military spokesman, this would gradually weaken Washington’s influence in the Middle East.
