Russia’s security service says it foiled planned attack on defence facility

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), working with the Interior Ministry, has detained supporters of international terrorist organisations banned in Russia in the republics of Adygea and Kabardino-Balkaria, the security service said.

According to Russian media, one of those detained was allegedly planning an attack on a Russian Defence Ministry facility.

In Maykop, a local resident was detained and homemade incendiary devices and communications equipment were seized from him.

The FSB said the correspondence found on the equipment included messages with a militant from a Ukrainian terrorist organisation who was allegedly coordinating his activities.

In Kabardino-Balkaria’s Zolsky district, 11 members of a terrorist cell were also detained. According to the FSB, they had been spreading radical ideology and carrying out violent acts against people who did not share their views.
