Fire at Russia’s Amur gas chemical complex kills seven 9 Chinese nationals missing / VIDEO / UPDATED

Seven people were killed, and nine are missing following an explosion at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) under construction, the company said.

“Four Chinese nationals, employees of a contractor, were found dead at the site of the fire. Another nine people are missing. A total of 152 people were injured, 36 of whom were hospitalised,” the AGCC press service said.

One Russian national and six Chinese nationals were killed in the explosion, ASTRA reports.

The Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) is an investment project of Russia’s SIBUR and China’s Sinopec in the Amur Region.

A fire at the construction site of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) in Svobodny, Russia, has been extinguished, the company’s press service said on August 26.

“Fire hotspots at the construction site of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex have been extinguished,” the company said.

According to Russian media, specialists are completing the controlled burning-off of residual process gases, while an inspection of the site has begun.

The death toll has risen to seven, while 152 people have sought medical assistance. The whereabouts of nine Chinese nationals remain unknown following the fire.

No exceedances of permissible concentrations of monitored substances were detected at the AGCC site. Thirty-six people have been hospitalised, the company said.

Psychological assistance is being provided to those injured and their relatives.

An Il-76 aircraft operated by Russia’s Emergencies Ministry has arrived to transport some of those hospitalised to federal medical facilities, the company said.
