Moscow accuses Armenia of "deceptive" policy over EU, EAEU

Armenia has the sovereign right to develop relations with the European Union, but it should not simultaneously benefit from the opportunities and preferences offered by the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said.

Speaking in an interview with Vesti, Volodin said Yerevan should clearly inform its EAEU partners about its plans regarding European integration.

“We want Armenia not to pursue a deceptive policy, because if Armenia adopts a law on its intention to join the European Union, then why are you using the opportunities provided by the EAEU?” Volodin said.

He urged the Armenian government not to combine its push toward European integration with continued access to EAEU benefits.
