Tajikistan, Kazakhstran plant new tourist rail links
A new tourist railway route linking Tajikistan and Kazakhstan is set to be launched, with a train service planned between Dushanbe and Almaty, officials said.
The proposal was announced during the 84th meeting of the Council on Railway Transport of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Member States held in Ashgabat, Caliber.Az reports via Tajik media.
In addition to the Dushanbe–Almaty connection, authorities also outlined plans for further international tourist routes, including links between Armenia and Georgia, and between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. No launch dates have been specified for any of the proposed services.
Oleg Nikitin, Head of the Department of Passenger and Freight Operations, said the new routes will be developed based on economic feasibility assessments and marketing research to determine demand and sustainability.
