Iran’s Pezeshkian warns against exploiting wartime economy
Masoud Pezeshkian said on Wednesday, May 13, that the government would not tolerate attempts to exploit wartime conditions for economic gain at the expense of the public, according to state media.
Speaking at a meeting focused on market conditions and supply chains, Pezeshkian emphasised the need to protect livelihoods and maintain stability. “We will not allow some people to exploit wartime conditions to target people's livelihoods, create economic disruption and seek illegitimate gains through illegal actions,” he said, as quoted by Iran International, citing Islamic Republic News Agency.
He added that one of the primary objectives of Iran’s adversaries is to destabilise the economy and increase pressure on citizens’ living conditions. In response, authorities must ensure the steady provision of goods while safeguarding the interests of both producers and consumers.
Pezeshkian also called for stricter monitoring of supply and distribution chains to prevent hoarding and unchecked price increases. He highlighted the importance of expanding exports and strengthening trade ties with neighbouring countries as a key strategy to enhance Iran’s economic resilience.
