Israel, Türkiye establish conflict-prevention "hotline" following talks in Baku

22 May 2025 09:11

Israel and Türkiye have agreed to establish a special “hotline” aimed at preventing conflicts and coordinating military actions in Syrian territory, as a result of negotiations held in Azerbaijan.

According to Israel Hayom, the agreement was reached during talks in Baku that took place in April this year, Caliber.Az reports.

Sources report that the next, and fifth, round of negotiations between Israel and Türkiye is scheduled for the end of May.

Türkiye has reportedly proposed deploying its ground forces in Syria, including armoured units and infantry, on the condition that no equipment capable of tracking Israeli air movements would be stationed at their positions. This includes air defence systems and radar installations. Israel, according to the report, does not object to the proposal as long as it does not pose a threat to IDF operations.

Particular attention during the negotiations has been given to the so-called “Palm Line” — an area near the Syrian city of Palmyra. This region houses the T4 airbase, which was previously used extensively by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and served as part of a logistical corridor for supplying weapons to Hezbollah. Israel has repeatedly targeted the base, viewing it as a strategic asset for its adversaries.

“The negotiations are progressing positively,” sources noted.

Separately, Israel and Syria are also conducting bilateral talks in Baku aimed at resolving their disputes. “The negotiations, supported by Türkiye and Azerbaijan, are focused on building confidence between Israel and Syria,” the publication emphasised.
