Moscow voices support for Baku-Yerevan peace treaty, offers continued mediation
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reaffirmed Moscow’s support for the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, expressing a genuine desire to see the two countries successfully conclude a comprehensive peace treaty.
Lavrov emphasized the significance of formalizing peace between the two nations and underscored Russia's role in facilitating dialogue, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“It is necessary to sign a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia; we sincerely wish them success in this regard,” Lavrov stated.
He credited past diplomatic progress to a series of trilateral summits involving Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, which laid the groundwork for the current negotiations.
Lavrov also reiterated Russia’s willingness to remain an active mediator in the peace process. “We are ready to continue providing assistance if both sides are interested in it,” he noted, signaling that Moscow remains open to hosting or participating in future rounds of talks should Baku and Yerevan request further support.
