Türkiye among European leaders in sales of electric vehicles
Türkiye is ahead of many European Union countries in terms of sales of “all-electric” cars.
Türkiye took sixth place in this segment, ahead of Italy, Spain, Austria, Denmark and Finlandç data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), Anadolu reports.
In 2023, 65,562 vehicles of this type were sold in the country.
Over the past year, leading European and Asian brands have introduced their advanced models to the Turkish market.
In addition to electric vehicles, the number of cars with hybrid engines is also increasing in the Turkish market. Surveys show that consumer interest in electric vehicles is quite high.
Overall, Türkiye's passenger car and light commercial vehicle market grew by 57.4 per cent year-on-year in 2023. Thus, for the first time in the industry, the 1 million figure was exceeded - 1,232,635 units were sold. This is evidenced by data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD).
At the same time, the total sales of hybrid and electric cars exceeded the sales of cars with diesel fuel.
In the Turkish automobile market, the growth trend in the share of electric vehicles continues to be high compared to European automobile markets.
According to ACEA, in January-November 2023, “battery electric vehicles” (BEV) sales in Europe increased by 48.2 per cent year-on-year, reaching 1,378,441.
