Türkiye tests AKYA heavy torpedo PHOTO
The AKYA torpedo developed by Turkish defence company ROKETSAN, launched by the submarine TCG PREVEZE in the Eastern Mediterranean, accurately hit the target.
"In a near combat test, the AKYA heavy torpedo fired from the TCG PREVEZE submarine in the Eastern Mediterranean hit the target with high accuracy and destroyed it in a very short time. Thus, a new milestone has been passed in our defence industry and our Navy has gained tremendous power. Türkiye is fully independent in the defence industry!", the Turkish Ministry of National Defence said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports, citing Defence Turk’s X page.

The AKYA, developed from internal resources will meet the Turkish Navy's needs for 533mm heavy torpedoes. In addition to an active/passive sonar head with countermeasures and tracking guidance capability, it also has an external guidance capability via fibre optic cable.
