Türkiye to host COP31 in November 2026, Erdoğan confirms
The 31st session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) is scheduled to be held in Türkiye in November 2026.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made the announcement while speaking at one of the sessions of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The Turkish leader noted that the agreement with Australia on jointly organising COP31 is particularly significant “against the backdrop of weakening consensus platforms worldwide.”
Erdoğan also outlined Türkiye’s energy development plans, emphasising the central role of renewable energy sources (RES).
He stated that by 2035 the country’s solar and wind power capacity will increase fourfold, and that by the end of 2025 the share of renewables in Türkiye’s electricity generation will exceed 60 per cent.
The president further drew attention to Türkiye’s “Zero Waste” initiative, which is being implemented internationally with UN support.
Earlier reports confirmed that Türkiye and Australia reached an agreement to host COP31 in Antalya.
