Türkiye urges global focus on Gaza amid US-Iran tensions
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, speaking in Washington after attending a meeting of the Gaza Board of Peace, addressed both the humanitarian situation in Gaza and ongoing diplomatic efforts amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
“Attention to Gaza must not be weakened under any circumstances,” Fidan warned, emphasizing the risk of a return to “mass killings, hunger, and poverty” if international focus wanes, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
He highlighted Türkiye’s continuous efforts since the onset of the crisis, mobilizing its institutions, government structures, and civil society organizations to respond to humanitarian needs.
Fidan also noted that, with the agreement of all parties to establish international stability forces, the Turkish president is prepared to deploy troops and Türkiye is ready to contribute in any capacity across all areas.
On the US-Iran front, Fidan said his meetings in America revealed a mix of positive diplomatic momentum and heightened military activity. He stressed that Türkiye is closely monitoring whether such activity is intended to pressure negotiations or to prepare for a pre-determined military operation.
The minister expressed hope that progress can be achieved without resorting to force, noting that both sides are sending encouraging signals on advancing specific issues.
“However, how this will be practically implemented, when it will happen, how it will be perceived by the parties, and how that perception will influence their next steps — we are precisely at this critical stage now,” Fidan added.
