Two dead, 23 rescued as three-storey building collapses in Nigeria
Two individuals have died, and 23 others have been rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos, Nigeria, on April 19 morning.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at a building housing a restaurant and bar, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The two deceased, both male, were among several workers present in the building when it collapsed. According to officials, emergency response teams from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) arrived at the scene at 9:52 a.m. and immediately began search and rescue operations.
Eight victims were rescued from the rubble, and one of them was transported to a hospital for further treatment by the LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit. The agency also reported that its heavy-duty equipment, including an excavator, was deployed to aid in the continued search for any remaining survivors trapped under the debris.
Authorities confirmed that safety measures were swiftly implemented, with the operational area cordoned off for secure rescue operations.
The building, which was still under construction, caved in around 8:00 a.m. A total of five individuals were initially reported as rescued, with ongoing efforts to clear the rubble.
