UAE maintains rejection of Trump's relocation proposal amid Secretary Rubio visit
United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan informed visiting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Abu Dhabi rejects any proposals that include the displacement of Palestinians.
Sheikh Mohammed “affirmed the UAE’s firm position rejecting any attempts aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from their land,” Caliber.Az reports citing the WAM news agency.
The publication further repprted that in the course of the US-UAE meeting on February 17, the president stressed the need for “a comprehensive and lasting peace based on the two-state solution” to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
The Abu Dhabi meeting discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, with a focus on developments in the Middle East and the Palestinian Territory, as well as ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis in the Gaza Strip and its implications for regional peace, stability and security.
Sheikh Mohammed and Secretary Rubio also discussed cooperation between their countries, as well as ways to further deepen ties in various fields to achieve common interests.
As Caliber.Az reports, the meeting comes amid a critical time for the Israel-Hamas conflict as the first phase of the agreed ceasefire is nearing its end with the last batch of living Israeli hostages to be released this weekend. There were multiple occasions when the ceasefire was feared to be halted by both sides but eventually continued on shaky grounds, which leads to uncertainty regarding the probabilities for a second phase.
