UK proposes frictionless goods trade with EU in post-Brexit reset
The United Kingdom government has proposed the creation of a single market for goods with the European Union as part of the next phase in resetting post-Brexit relations, according to a report by the BBC.
Sources familiar with the initiative said the proposal has so far failed to gain traction, largely due to scepticism within the EU. Brussels is currently prioritising ongoing negotiations with London covering trade in food products, agricultural goods, and energy.
According to the report, British officials are aiming to make the agenda of the next EU–UK summit more ambitious. As part of this effort, London is considering deeper economic integration, including the possibility of frictionless trade in all goods within a shared market framework.
However, the EU has not indicated that it is ready to engage in discussions on such a comprehensive arrangement.
