Ukraine awaits global response to fire at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant VIDEO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced on his Telegram channel that Russian troops caused a fire at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
He emphasized that while radiation levels are currently within normal limits, "the situation at the plant cannot be considered safe as long as it remains under illegal Russian control", Caliber.Az reports citing the Ukrainian president’s Telegram channel.
"We await the world's response, we await the IAEA's response. Only the restoration of Ukrainian control over the Zaporizhzhia plant can ensure a return to full safety," Zelenskyy underscored.
Ukraine and Russia have blamed each other after a fire broke out at the giant Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant on August 11. President Zelenskyy said Russian forces had started a fire at the plant, which has been occupied by Moscow's forces for more than two years. Zaporizhzhia's Kremlin-installed governor said Ukrainian shelling caused the blaze. The UN's nuclear watchdog said it saw "strong dark smoke" coming from the facility - but said there was "no impact reported" for nuclear safety.
