Ukraine discloses details about EU membership
Director-General of the Government Office for the Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Natalia Forsuk has said that it may take seven years for Ukraine to join the EU because it is necessary to implement numerous issues upon the EU legislation.
“I think that there are no chances to join the EU in 2023, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to Natalia Forsuk.
"This is impossible in terms of procedures rather than Ukraine’s inability. According to the analysis, a seven-year period is very good. I think that it is necessary to proceed from this,” she said during the telethon.
Forsuk explained that the procedure for joining the EU will be long, as it is necessary to fulfil the recommendations of the European Commission.
She noted that Ukraine has progress upon all the conditions, they must be fulfilled, rather than start something new.
Forsuk added that afterwards, the EU countries should support the negotiations with Ukraine, while Kyiv should start implementing the EU legislation, which is a long procedure.
“It is improbable to rapidly fulfil this process because we should adopt and implement numerous legislative issues in our daily life. That is, we should fully live according to the laws of Europe - economically, politically and judicially. This cannot happen during a year,” she stressed.
The European Council granted Ukraine the EU candidate status on June 23, 2022.
