Ukraine, Italy discuss protection of energy infrastructure PHOTO
Ukraine and Italy have held talks on safeguarding the country’s energy infrastructure amid ongoing attacks.
Roman Andarak, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, met with Davide La Cecilia, Italy’s Special Representative for the Restoration and Resilience of Ukraine, to review the current state of Ukraine’s energy sector following recent overnight strikes on critical facilities.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, the attacks continue to target power generation plants and substations, but energy teams have managed to restore systems promptly. The discussions focused on urgent priorities for the sector, including enhancing air defences, protecting critical infrastructure, supplying essential equipment, expanding reserve generation, and constructing protective facilities.
Italy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ukraine at all levels. Italian aid to Ukraine’s energy sector currently totals around €130 million, enabling the purchase of crucial equipment and materials for system restoration.
Deputy Minister Andarak emphasised that transparency and building trust in the use of international assistance remain fundamental principles of the ministry’s work, and he thanked Italian partners for their solidarity and active involvement in strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience.
