Ukraine’s Zelenskyy meets US presidential hopeful

04 August 2023 20:48

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on August 4 held a meeting with Republican presidential candidate Christopher Christie.

“I would also like to sincerely thank you and your colleagues, in particular, the Congress. We are grateful for bipartisan support, which is extremely important to us. We are very grateful to US President Joe Biden and his administration,” RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy stressed that it is extremely important that the United States, all Americans, are on the side of truth and democracy, and they are convinced of Ukraine's victory.

The president noted the importance of further strengthening assistance from partners for reliable protection against Russian missile terror and the successful liberation of the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.

“The United States is the leader, giving us the most support on the battlefield - for our Armed Forces. And, of course, in the financial sector, which is also a powerful support,” Zelenskyy said.

Christopher Christie said that he wanted to see firsthand what is happening in Ukraine and share the information received with the American society, which is extremely supportive of Ukraine.

Christopher James (Chris) Christie is an American politician and governor of New Jersey from 2010-2018. He became the first Republican to win an election in that state in 12 years.

CNN reports that the former governor of New Jersey also visited Moshchun and Bucha in Kyiv region.

He told reporters who accompanied him that he came to Ukraine because he wanted the Americans to see the same thing as he did, so that their determination to support Ukraine would be maintained.

He stressed that US support is needed to counter the influence of adversaries such as China and Russia. Christie has previously criticized former US President Donald Trump for refusing to say outright whether Ukraine should win the war against Russia.
