Ukraine says no official ceasefire proposal received from Russia
Ukraine has not received any official proposals from Russia regarding a ceasefire for May 9, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said, dismissing Moscow’s public statements as an attempt to shape international perceptions.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, May 1, Sybiha said Kyiv had not been formally approached by Moscow and characterised the claims as politically motivated.
“This is another attempt by the Russians to appeal to Americans. To show some element of constructiveness. The President of Ukraine clearly said that as of today, the Ukrainian side has not received any proposals from them,” he said, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
Sybiha argued that such statements are designed to improve Russia’s image abroad, particularly with a US audience, rather than to advance genuine peace efforts.
He reiterated that Ukraine remains committed to diplomacy and has repeatedly expressed readiness for an unconditional ceasefire, stressing that the priority should be ending what he described as Russia’s aggressive war and achieving a durable truce.
“And all these manipulative ceasefires, which are then not observed by the same party that initiates them, by the Russians, are an attempt at a crude diplomatic manoeuvre. And secondly, it is a PR campaign aimed at a domestic audience with these parades of obscurantism,” Sybiha said.
