Ukrainian air defences down 89 drones in Russian overnight attack
Russia launched a large-scale overnight attack on Ukraine on May 6, deploying a combination of missiles and drones, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The report notes that the assault included two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, one Kh-31 guided air-launched missile, and 108 strike unmanned aerial vehicles, including Shahed, Gerbera and Italmas drones, as well as other UAV types.
Ukrainian air defences responded across multiple regions. According to preliminary data provided by the military, as of 08:00, a total of 89 drones were shot down or suppressed in the northern and eastern parts of the country.
Despite interception efforts, impacts were recorded. Ukrainian authorities said two ballistic missiles, one guided air-launched missile and nine strike drones hit targets across eight locations. In addition, debris from intercepted drones fell at one location.
