Ukrainian boats attack Russian naval base in Novorossiysk UPDATE / VIDEO
The Ukrainian military tried to attack the Novorossiysk naval base with two unmanned seaboats on the night of August 3 to 4.
The boats were destroyed by fire from the regular armament of Russian ships guarding the outer roadstead of the base, Kommersant informs, citing the Russian Defence Ministry.
Governor of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratiev confirmed the information about an attempt to attack the base.
“Tonight, and early in the morning, our military repelled an attack by two surface drones in the waters of Novorossiysk. There were no casualties or damage. All the necessary special services are working on the spot,” he wrote on Telegram.
Head of the city administration Andrei Kravchenko said that the attack was repulsed by the crews of the Olenegorsk Miner and Suvorovets ships. According to him, they "reacted instantly and helped to avoid the consequences of the attack".
Emergency services reported that explosions occurred in the waters of Novorossiysk and the village of Myskhako in the Krasnodar Region. Novorossiysk is home to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) marine terminal. It was not damaged in the attack, but according to the CPC, there is a temporary ban on ship traffic in the port of Novorossiysk.
