Ukrainian president informs ambassador to US of plans to replace her
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has informed Ambassador Oksana Markarova of his intention to find a replacement for her as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, according to undisclosed sources.
While Markarova is expected to remain within the Ukrainian government, her next role has not yet been announced, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Likewise, the identity of her successor as ambassador remains undecided.
Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that Zelenskyy discussed the potential ambassadorial change during a July 4 phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump. Among the possible candidates considered are Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, and Energy Minister German Galushchenko.
The Ukrainian president has reportedly instructed the Foreign Ministry to engage with U.S. officials regarding the next ambassadorial appointment. This move signals a strategic shift in Ukraine’s diplomatic representation amid ongoing challenges in bilateral relations and international affairs.
