Ukrainian security forces detain Russian-linked saboteur in Odesa PHOTO
The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has successfully prevented a sabotage operation targeting Ukrainian defence installations in the Odesa region by detaining an individual collaborating with Russian intelligence.
The 41-year-old resident of Izmail, who had previously evaded mobilization, was recruited through Telegram channels promising “easy earnings,” the SSU reports.
His primary mission involved identifying temporary deployment points of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, including facilities housing National Guard and law enforcement personnel.
To collect intelligence, the agent covertly surveyed the area, photographed potential targets, plotted their locations on digital maps, and transmitted the coordinates to his FSB handler. Russian intelligence later instructed him to set fire to one of the designated sites.

The plot was thwarted through the coordinated efforts of the SSU’s Main Directorate of Internal Security and investigators from the regional office. During searches, authorities seized the suspect’s mobile phone, which contained evidence of communications and cooperation with Russian intelligence operatives.
Following the investigation, the SBU charged the detainee with treason under martial law. He is currently held in custody without the possibility of bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
This operation highlights the ongoing vigilance of Ukrainian security forces against espionage and sabotage activities amid the ongoing conflict.
