UN experts condemn deaths of children in Israeli, US strikes on Iran
A committee of UN experts said it was “deeply disturbed” by the deaths of children amid escalating violence across the Middle East, highlighting the bombing of a girls’ school in Iran.
The Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, southern Iran, was struck on February 28, the first day of U.S. and Israeli attacks in the country, killing 160 children, according to the UN experts, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was asked about the incident on March 2. He told reporters, “The Department of War would be investigating that if that was our strike, and I would refer your question to them.” He added, “The United States would not deliberately target a school.”
The Pentagon and the U.S. Central Command did not respond to a request for comment. Over the weekend, the U.S. Central Command told media outlets it was “looking into” reports of “civilian harm resulting from ongoing military operations.”
